Another awesome Rifts idea

So the idea came to me today after talking out loud with myself which happens quite a lot actually.  Anyways, the idea stems from the previous idea about the stone or new element that sucks the color out of the ley lines.  Perhaps, the element sucks PPE, but can only suck out so much in its natural state, but the effect of such a happenstance leaves the ley line devoid of color, meaning black to human perception.  The idea actually is that the Coalition finds some of this mineral/element and experiments on it and finds a way to harness and amplify the ability to consume or collect PPE from PPE-users and sources of PPE.  Through this use though, the weapon becomes more powerful after sucking say 100 PPE, then that would allow it to consume PPE at say 4d6 + 1 instead of just 4d6.  The plus amount is subject to change.  This is not by any means concrete.

Now take the same element/mineral and say the Federation of Magic has also found a sample and also did experiments, but they found the opposite effect.  They learned to release the PPE inside the crystals into ley lines or as additional PPE sources for their magic users.

This could be another reason that the Coalition States and the Federation of Magic war with each other.  In the hopes to stop the other side from controlling this element.  This could also explain why forces of both sides are searching for something the world over or just in North America region.  You could use this with the Worldbook: Japan or any other worldbook as well.  Anything can happen if you use your imagination.

Until next time, safe gaming and have fun.

First Alternative

I love Rifts, but somehow started making some distinctions. In the reading I have done, I haven't found mention of any kind of rules about Rifts underground. I recently started running a Rifts game and started having Rifts appear underground. At first, one of my players suggested that Rifts only occur above ground, but I didn't find that rule anywhere. The main reason I am running Rifts underground is because it is based in New West and Nebraska. According to the books, there is like almost no ley lines in that area. I improvised and have had, so far, only one rift that they have actually seen underground while the other remains heresay, but yeah, it occured and more than once in the same spot. So I got the big idea of dark ley lines, lines that are completely invisible because they are underground and throw no visible light like the normal ley lines. However, I only have the dark ley lines appear in places where there are no above ground ley lines. I would guess to say that these dark ley lines are kind of like anti-ley lines, but dark ley lines sounds better to me. Anyways, I was just thinking out loud and thought I should write this down since I think it a good idea. Use sparringly, but these dark ley lines are all over the place, especially in Nebraska and there is a dark ley line nexus at the ruins of Alliance, Nebraska. Happy gaming.
